The ‘Cosy Girl’ aesthetic is autumn's answer to the Strawberry Girl

It's the era of “aesthetics”. The year kicked off with the “vanilla girl”, summer was all about the “strawberry girl” and now the “cosy girl” is here to take autumn.

Of course, there's been much debate around whether we need such prescriptive trends, but on the other hand, isn't fashion and beauty supposed to be about experimenting with your look and inhabiting different versions of you?

As aesthetics go, the blueprint for cosy girls is very loose, but the vibe is seriously snug, so here's what you need to know about Cosy Girl Autumn.

What is a cosy girl?

If you're excited by the prospect of chunky knits, pumpkin spiced lattes and warm autumn colour palettes, congrats, you're a cosy girl. The matching aesthetic offers an opportunity to lean into that snuggly autumn vibe, which means playing up cosy tones and textures. Cardigans, cashmere and corduroy are all very much on the agenda. As are caramel, camel, cafe au lait, mocha and toffee tones.

What is cosy girl beauty?

Translated across to our beauty routine, the same rules apply. With cosy texture and tones applied across skin, lips and eyes. "As we step into fall, I'm excited to see the emergence of cosy beauty trends featuring shades of cinnamon, caramel, and deep chocolates," confirmed top celebrity makeup artist, Ash K Holm, who counts Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox and Shay Mitchell as clients.

As for textures, we'll see super-soft cashmere finishes replacing the mega-sheeny skin that trended throughout summer. “Autumn will see soft focused skin,” says leading celebrity makeup artist, Nikki Wolff, who works with the likes of Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and Yara Shahidi. “This means blurred, perfected complexions and mattified finishes,” she says. “Forget the super intense glow of summer skin, Autumn will be about a wearable and flattering soft finish for our complexions.”

Here's some of the ways you can tap into your cosy girl beauty era…

Mattified skin

Dialling down the sheen in your foundation is one way to create a cosy complexion, so try swapping in a delicate soft-matte formula like NARS Soft Matte foundation, YSL Beauty All Hours, Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blur + Tint Stick or L'Oreal Infallible 24H Matte Foundation.

Toffee tones

We've said it before but toffee tones are one of the yummiest makeup shades for autumn and they take the latte trend in an even cosier direction.

Woodland liner

If woodland walks through crunchy leaves remind you of autumn, we're right with you, but we'll also be taking inspo from the animals with delicate doe eyesfeline liner and statement '60s owl eyes.

Spiced tones

Spiced tones for autumn? Not exactly groundbreaking, but deliciously effective and cosy nonetheless. A sprinkle of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg shades across eyes, cheeks and lids is a surefire way to get things looking a whole lot more autumnal.

Tawny pinks

If you don't love the spiced and chocolate shades, you can stick to pinks, but the autumn update sees a slightly muted tawny brown undertone, or maybe some subtle contouring with cork or oak lip liner.

Cosy coloured nails

We love latte nails, we love mocha nails, we love all shades of earthy brown.https://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/mocha-nails It's richer than the milky pinks that overtake summer, but softer than full-on black.
